THURSDAY,

Are Masks Leading to a New Form of Deception?

It was just a matter of time.. "People wear masks to rob banks and we are apparently going to see the same thing happen in high school tennis," exclaimed a Westerville East fan yesterday during their match against Bloomingburg. A player who was perhaps much older than a high school player competed for Bloomingburg "by turning it on when he needed to" to allow them to win their 3-2 match. The player did not arrive with the other players in the bus but that is not unusual with social distancing in effect. The East assistant coach suspected something was amiss and was overheard saying, "How many kids wear dark glasses on cloudy days and wear a mask while they play?"

It was reportedly not an act of graciousness when the Westerville East coach offered the masked player a snack and drink after the match, "we wanted to see what he looked like, but the guy grabbed a crazy straw out of his tennis bag and manipulated it so that he would not have to remove his mask." Will we see this player at States? "You can't ask anyone to take their mask off so this so-called freshman may graduate before we know who he is," lamented another player.
